A Holy Land Novena: Weekly Message for 02-19-2019
Dear Digital Pilgrim,
This week we begin our journey, leaving for our “Going Deeper Pilgrimage” to the Holy Land. This will be a first time experience for many of us (including me) and I cannot wait!
Beginning this Friday, we will spend the next nine days in the land where God himself took flesh and redeemed the world. Spiritually and geographically, we will join the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary during the nine days between Christ’s Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost – the first novena in the history of the Church. Just as the Apostles would have contemplated their experience in Mary’s company, during those nine days of prayerful waiting, so too will we.
I know many of you may have wanted to join us on this pilgrimage, but were unable to do so, either because of the timing was not right or the expense was too high. We want you to know that even though you are not going to be joining us physically, you are very much with us spiritually as we carry the intentions of all of our RCSpirituality audience.
In each holy site that we visit, after our historical-cultural tour, we have time for personal prayer, and then we either celebrate a beautiful Mass or come together for a time of Eucharistic adoration or benediction. As each day unfolds, as we visit each sacred place, we will be carrying all of you – all of our digital pilgrims and missionaries throughout the world – in our prayers. You will be with us! We will be praying for you.
We would very much like to ask you for your prayers as well. During pilgrimages, as during all intense spiritual activities, God has special graces he wants to offer us. But there is the reality of spiritual warfare so please pray for all of us pilgrims, that we will be open and docile to whatever the Lord wants to give us or ask of us. Thank you!
Do look out for updates on our travels via social media. As we prepare for Lent we hope you will discover many wonderful Lenten Retreat Guides as a way to be making your own personal “going deeper” pilgrimage!
With the assurance of my prayers,
God bless you!
