Are You Sleeping?: Weekly Message for 12-20-2022

Dear Friends,

In just a few days, the world celebrates Christmas, commemorating the day the world changed forever. The King of the universe became man. Most of us have heard the Christmas story hundreds, if not thousands, of times. So often it becomes background noise as our minds flit from one thought to another. We have work concerns, family challenges, decorations to put up, gifts to buy, meals to cook.

Amid so much activity, our spirits can be lulled to sleep. We fail to consider the moment when heaven’s breath paused as the celestial beings hovered over a small cave in Bethlehem, waiting. And then, the small cry of a newborn babe echoes in the silence, and heaven exhales in a chorus singing, “Glory to God in the Highest and on earth good will to men.”

In many cultures around the world, the faithful re-enact the Christmas story, traveling with Mary and Joseph as they go door to door seeking a room for Jesus’ birth. House after house, the tenants are too busy, too distracted, too full, sleeping. If the Holy Family knocked on your door today, would you open your home to them? Would your heart be ready to encounter the presence of God Himself, or would He find a heart so cluttered with distractions, lulled to sleep by the constant noise, that He remains unnoticed?

It’s not too late to open your heart to welcome Jesus in a deeper, more personal way this Christmas. At RCSpirituality, this is our mission, to bring you resources that train the ears of your heart to hear God’s voice, to grow in your faith formation and to share the Good News with others.

My prayer this season for all our listeners around the world is that you waken your hearts to experience the birth of Christ in a deeper more profound way. I pray that the bells on Christmas Day ring loud and clear reminding you how much God loves you and for peace to fill your hearts.

Merry Christmas from all of us at RCSpirituality!

Yours in the Heart of Jesus,

Donna
