Help to Walk the Walk: Weekly Message for 1-24-17

Dear Friends in Christ,

Today we celebrate the memorial of St. Francis de Sales, bishop and doctor of the Church. St. Francis is a great spiritual master; in his Introduction to the Devout Life (Part I, Chapter III) he reminds us that a spiritual life (“devotion” in his words) is something good for everyone: “devotion prejudices nothing, when it is true, but rather makes all things perfect; […] and all persons become more acceptable in their vocation when they join devotion to it. The care of the family is thereby rendered less burdensome, the love of the husband and wife more sincere, the service to the prince more faithful, and all sorts of business more easy and supportable.”

However, he continues by pointing out that not every walk of life lives spiritually in exactly the same way: “It is an error … to banish a devout life from the camps of soldiers, the shops of tradesmen, the courts of princes, or the affairs of married people. […] de vocations; but besides these three sorts of devotion there are divers others proper to make those perfect who live in secular conditions.”

At RCSpirituality we hope to contribute to your spiritual life, wherever and however you live it, whether through a Spiritual Smoothie, a Retreat Guide, asking a priest for advice, or meditating on the liturgy. Whatever your walk in life we hope to help you walk it.

May God bless you and help you in your walk of life.
