Living in the Spirit: Weekly Message for 05-19-2020

Dear Friends in Christ,

The month of May is filled with expectations. Spring has arrived (in the Northern Hemisphere at least) full of new growth and the promise of budding beauty. The natural world reflects our hopes during this Easter season for the coming of the Holy Spirit to “renew the face of the earth” (Psalm 104).

With Pentecost only weeks away, we long for the power and enlightenment of the Holy Spirit more than ever to help us understand the mystery of God’s presence amidst the extraordinary times we are living.

During the month of May, Our Blessed Mother attends and accompanies us with her divine motherhood and intercession fully aware of our joys and sorrows. Now, we find a singular model of docility to the Holy Spirit in the person of Mary. All grace ultimately comes to us from God the Father, who continues working through Jesus, the Source of all grace, who came into the world through Mary by means of the Holy Spirit. As we turn to Mary, let us remember that we imitate the apostles who gathered with her after Christ’s resurrection, for Mary was both “mother and teacher, a role she continues to carry out for Christians of all times.” (Pope Benedict XVI)

Beginning on Friday, May 22, we will join the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary throughout the nine days between Christ’s Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost – the first novena in the history of the Church. Just as the Apostles would have contemplated their experience, in Mary’s company, during those nine days of prayerful waiting, so too will we during the last days of May.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He promised He wouldn’t leave them alone (John 14:16). Once the Apostles received the gifts of the Holy Spirit, their grief was turned into joy (John 16:20), their discouragement into confidence and they boldly proclaimed the mighty acts of God to people of every language (Acts 2:4) before the trials and challenges of their time.

Join us for Living in the Spirit: A Pentecost Meditation Novena designed to help you delve deeper into the central mysteries of the Holy Spirit. It will be a powerful opportunity to ponder the mystery of God’s action in the events of our lives and to ask for the light, strength, and love we so sorely need as Christians. Join members of our Regnum Christi family, as they share personal testimonies, reflections, and a vocal prayer to help deepen your relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Let us be united in praying for the special intention of healing for our whole world, physically, psychologically, and spiritually, asking for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the world.

With the assurance of my prayers,

God Bless

In Christ,
