Summer, and the Loving is Easy: Weekly Message for 6-6-17

Dear Digital Pilgrim, Pax Christi:

Summer is usually the time to relax the mind as well as the body. Most people wouldn’t think of taking a heavy read to the beach.

Yet, summer shouldn’t be a vacation from the spiritual life. Our relationship with Our Lord must always have a place in day-to-day life. Like food to the body is prayer to
the soul.

This year the relative lateness of Easter will help set the tone for a spiritually inclined summer because a key feast will be celebrated in mid-June: the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

The Trinity is the core mystery of Christian faith. That three divine Persons are in one God is a mystery we will never completely fathom, not even in heaven.

Yet as unfathomable as it, the Trinity can help us live our summer with a spiritual sense. Why? Because the Trinity is reflected in marriage and the family.

Just as the inner love of God is creative, the love of a husband and wife can be procreative. And living within a loving family helps give all of us at least a tiny grip on what the love of the Triune God must be like.

The point here is that summer is a good time to make time for family members. Time spent with family reminds us that we were conceived through and made for love.

So consider ways to dedicate lots of good-quality time with family this summer. And carve out time for prayer.

To help prepare for summer and the upcoming solemnity, consider looking at “The Mystery of Eternal Love: A Retreat Guide on the Blessed Trinity”.

God is eager to have some of the love and joy he has experienced from all eternity rub off on all families this summer.

Be assured of my prayers for you and your families.

In Christ,
Father Edward McIlmail, L.C.
