Summer Reading: Weekly Message for 06-15-2021

Dear Friends in Christ,

Summer is truly upon us! Everywhere I go people are talking with great anticipation about their upcoming time off. Social media is full of posts looking for summer reading recommendations while others are sharing their hopes of finally getting through the stack of books on their nightstands.

The long sunlight hours of summer allow for great mornings and peaceful evenings to sit outside and read. Here at RCSpirituality we are big fans of nurturing our souls with great resources. This summer I invite you to explore the life of a new saint or journey through a classic adventure — paying attention to all the spiritual undertones. Or you could even pick up an old, faithful, well-loved book that warms your heart and motivates your spirit while lingering over the pages. I love getting lost in a good book, especially one that opens up a whole new world to its readers.

Many of our digital pilgrims are aware of the many writings of Saint John Paul ll, but did you know he also wrote poetry? Poetry can take the reader on a journey where prose falls short.  Poetry Matters is an RC Essay that can inspire the heart.

If poetry is not your interest, maybe a journey through the life and times of Mary Magdalene with a book such as Mary Magdalene: Insights from Ancient Magdala might inspire you or working through Summer Meditations, small reflections for busy people.

So, grab a deck chair, a cool beverage, and a good book and escape into a different time and place.

Yours in the Heart of Jesus,

Donna
