The Mystery of Eternal Love: Weekly Message for 5-30-17

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we begin the summer months let me introduce to you several new contributors to RCSpirituality.org. You may have seen my name come up here and there over the past year as an author to several Retreat Guides e.g. Dawn of Mercy and the RC Essay All Things Proceed. This month I am also joined by Fr. Bruce Wren, LC to offer you new resources to deepen your spiritual life this summer!

So let’s start by pondering what is the central belief of our faith as Catholics? Is it the Incarnation? What about the Immaculate Conception? Or maybe it’s the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament? All those are important, but there’s something still more central. The Catechism of the Catholic Church puts it like this in number 234: “The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God himself.”

St. John tells us that God is love, and love always implies a communion of persons. Jesus Christ revealed that God is a communion of persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and that revelation quite literally changes our lives. It means that God is not an isolated power source – God is love, and our whole life has meaning in as much as we participate in that love. What’s more, through Christ we can participate in the eternal love that, as Dante famously wrote, moves the sun and the other stars.

So we’ve prepared a Retreat Guide to help enter into this mystery of eternal love that is the Blessed Trinity. God created us in order to share his life with us, and we hope that The Mystery of Eternal Love: A Retreat Guide on the Blessed Trinity enables each one of you to do exactly that.

Thank you for your ongoing support and be assured of our daily prayers for you.

May God bless you and keep you!

In Christ,
Fr. John Pietropaoli, LC
