Finding the Plug

Understanding Liturgical Prayer

“Finding the Plug” is written by Fr. Nikola Derpich, L.C., S.Th.D., who was ordained to the priesthood in 2006. Fr. Nikola was a contributor to Sacerdos Magazine and now writes the blogs A Roman Catholic Experience and Today’s Liturgy. He currently lives in Rome, Italy, where he teaches theology at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University.

The focus of “Finding the Plug” is to help readers to draw spiritual fruit from the Eucharistic celebration. By “finding the plug,” the hope is that they’ll establish a vital connection in Mass that helps them put their heart and mind into liturgical prayer in order to capitalize on all the graces the liturgy seeks to communicate. This will be accomplished in each post through a spiritual reflection on each prayer found in the Ordinary of the Mass: the prayers we say either daily or every Sunday in the celebration of the Eucharist, prayers that we've recited together in the Eucharist for centuries and contain a richness that has stood the test of time and blessed the lives of so many believers. Our hope is that “Finding the Plug” helps readers achieve “a greater awareness of the mystery being celebrated and its relationship to daily life” (Sacramentum Caritatis, 52).
